There are still broken relationships all around my from my overreacting. The bottled up rage I get from the raiders is being taken out on my friends, and this isn’t cool with them or me. Loveth mentioned that we should instill a new policy of being blunt with people from now on in a no-hard-feelings sort of way. While I know this was actually aimed at me and my overreactions, I’m going to use it on our raiders.

Yes, I will call you out in raids now. It’s not an attack on your character, it’s really just me saving my friendships from abuse and festering.

occiferTo the left is a snippet of a conversation I had with my dearest friend, Drakke. Feeling kinda emo over the current situation, I asked him if I’d become bitchier since being promoted. He said “Yes,” then followed with what you see here.

I suppose it’s his jerkwad behavior I like so much in him as a friend. I also get the feeling that he’s the only one that understands why I’m so upset.

I’ve been suppressing my inner bitch lately, and I’m regretting it. All it does is turn into QQ in officer chat or whispers, with nothing changing, the problem escalates, then the stress gets great enough to wear I snap at my friends.

I’m still new to the whole “position of power” thing. If I stop letting my emotions dictate how I handle an in-game problem, it’ll be easier on the guild as a whole.

One of my main worries about being promoted to an officer was that people would stop being open with me. I vowed to never speak in that “holier-than-thou” officer tone or stop being friendly to applicants. I vowed to still be a friend to all in the guild. WTF WAS I THINKING?!

I was promoted and put in charge of the DKP. My responsibilities are:

  • Create reasonable values for items in new content patches.
  • Update DKP earned/spent for a night after the raid.
  • Update weekly guild bank turn-ins and decay.
  • ect.

I’ve lost a lot of friends in the process. Every tiny thing I do is scrutinized and taken way out of proportion. I am the recipient of much tears and threats. Though I am the officer in charge of DKP, I have gotten only one complaint about DKP. Here’s a short list of what I get on a daily basis:

  1. I do not like so-and-so. Please kick/globally mute/demote this person immediately.
  2. Your boyfriend is an asshole. (wtf?)
  3. Why are we raiding A instead of B?
  4. I told you not to recruit this person. He/She sucks.
  5. Why are we doing 25-mans instead of 10-man hard modes?
  6. Why are we doing 10-man hard modes instead of 25-mans? We have 17 people online, we can PUG the rest.
  7. I don’t want to PUG. Can’t we 17 man this?
  8. Please don’t recruit that new applicant. They’re retarded.
  9. You’re an officer. You’re supposed to put all of my needs ahead of your own even on weekends when we’re not raiding.
  10. Why aren’t you doing X/Y/Z?

I think that covers the jist of it, just repeat #’s 1, 8, 9, & 10 several dozen times, and you’ve got yourself a heap of stress and some hair falling out. Let me make this clear: Make sure you are speaking to the correct officer about your problem. This goes for all guilds, clubs, businesses, and even schools.

If you have a problem with a recruit, take it up with the recruitment officer, not the DKP manager. If you have a problem with someone’s attitude, bring it up with any of us, but don’t make demands of us. If you have an issue with what we are raiding tonight, bring it up with the raid leader – <Summit> has two raid leaders. There’s no excuse to whine to the DKP manager about it.

I’m not your friend during the raid.

This is actually a guild rule that I’ve found not many follow. Temper tantrums aren’t tolerated. Issues with where we’re raiding/dkp/performance are not up for discussion during the 3 hours we’re raiding.

On that same note, if there is ever a time where I put on my officer hat, it’s during raid time. If I tell you to get on Vent or use your consumables for a progression fight, don’t give me “I don’t feel like it.”

I’m not your friend when you make demands.

I’ve been known to dip my fingers in other’ pie before. In fact, I did it recently, and got in trouble for it. Wait. What did I just say? Oh, right. Not only is it not my job to do Y or Z, I get in trouble for it. If there’s a complaint about DKP I’ll gladly take it on; that’s what I’m here for.

I get a lot of demands thrown at me, most having nothing to do with my job, or they have nothing to do with the complainer’s business. Lots of times, I get told to deny applicants or kick them. Awesome. Chances are, I agree with you. But that ain’t my call, dolly.

I’m not your friend when… hell, when we’ve never been friends.

On this point, I want to be perfectly clear.  There is no officer position built around the idea of being responsible for putting up with the QQ.  I’ve had officers in the past who enjoy handling this stuff and I don’t object to them doing so.  The point is that you are not obligated to do so.  Feel free to send them my way.

Yes, I copied & pasted that from the officer forums.

Once, someone asked for a tank for Ulduar-10 on a Saturday. The tank was an officer, and declined the invitation. The member then said that they were glad that they were a member, and not an officer, because they don’t have to care about others than themselves.

From Loveth’s mouth? No, we don’t have to give a shit about you.
